Ultimately, the goal of Heartland Truly Moving Pictures is to mobilize audiences to see the films that align with our mission. In that vein, Heartland is always looking for wide release films that could potentially be honored with the Truly Moving Picture Award.

Filmmakers
Independent films are eligible for recognition annually at the Heartland Film Festival. This year, in addition to winning the Crystal Heart Award or the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award (for student filmmaking), filmmakers will be awarded a total of $200,000 for their creative efforts. Information about each award follows.
Crystal Heart Award
The Crystal Heart Award is given every year to a selected group of independent filmmakers for demonstrating excellence in filmmaking and for best meeting Heartland's mission. Dramatic, animation and documentary films of any length are eligible for the Crystal Heart Award. Crystal Heart Award-winning films are screened at the annual Heartland Film Festival and the visionaries from the films are present to accept the award at the Crystal Heart Awards Gala. A $100,000 grand prize for best dramatic feature, $25,000 grand prize for Best Documentary Feature and $10,000 grand prize for Best Short Film is is also announced and presented at the annual Gala.
Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award
The Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Awardis given every year to a selected group of student filmmakers for demonstrating excellence in filmmaking and for best meeting Heartland's mission. Dramatic, documentary and animated films of any length made by a student of any age are eligible for the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award. The Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Awards are presented at the Crystal Heart Awards Gala.
Saab Pioneering Spirit Award
The Saab Pioneering Spirit Award is given to an individual for inspiring work within the film industry and his or her contribution to Heartland Film Festival's mission.
Truly Moving Picture Award
Throughout the year, Heartland recognizes theatrically-released films with the Truly Moving Picture Award. The award is given prior to the film's release with the goal of encouraging moviegoers to support the film, especially on opening weekend. A representative from each Truly Moving Picture Award winning film is present at the Crystal Heart Awards Gala to receive the award.
