The Green Mile Gets Special Edition DVD

August 11 , 2006

Warner Bros. Home Video recently announced a new special edition DVD for The Green Mile, a film recognized as a Truly Moving Picture. This new version of the DVD will include a second disc of special features, including commentary by the writer/director, deleted scenes and several documentary featurettes. Movieweb has a full story (and full list of features) on the new version, and even got the chance to talk with Frank Darabont, the film's writer and director, who also helmed Truly Moving Picture The Shawshank Redemption:

Said director Frank Darabont:  "I want to thank and acknowledge the fine folks at Warner Home Video for their incredible support in putting together this special edition DVD of The Green Mile. I wanted to put the "special" into this special edition, which meant creating a wide spectrum of ambitious documentary materials...as well as my setting a record for the amount of time spent recording a commentary track!  Warner's patience and enthusiasm never waned for a moment throughout this process; their determination to do the job right and give the fans of the film something truly special easily matched mine. Their dedication and willingness made the whole thing possible; I doubt many studios would have given me as much unconditional support as they did. Bless their hearts-they love the film, and their care and effort show in the final result."

With four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, The Green Mile is an adaptation of a Stephen King serial novel that became one of the year's most hailed films. Bringing the vibrant characters to life is a star-studded cast, including Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, Bonnie Hunt, David Morse, Gary Sinise and James Cromwell.

The two-disc special edition will be available on November 14, just in time to wrap it up for the movielover on your gift list this holiday season. Sign up for Truly Moving Pictures updates and we'll remind you when this exciting new DVD will be available in stores.
